The Early Days
Kerry Jordan was born on July 1, 1958 in Cincinnati, OH. At the age of 11 he began preparing for his life course as a performer by joining the All-City Boys Choir of Cincinnati, OH. In Junior high he took a semester in Beginning Jazz playing Up-right bass. He later took private lessons for a period of time, and later decided to turn to the electric bass. It was at the age of 13 when his brother started a band with some local friends, and gave Kerry his own personal bass guitar. Kerry continued to teach himself to play and at the age of 16, he began performing professionally with the “Love Band” 1974-1975. It was because of his young age, he had to remain in the dressing room when not on stage when performing in the various clubs. In 1976, Kerry began performing with “Blue Atmosphere” which became the touring band for “Facts Of Life”, a group discovered and produced by America’s R&B/Soul Singer Millie Jackson. Kerry toured as a member of “The Facts of Life” band for one year, after that time he worked as a session musician/songwriter for Blue-Wave Productions/Bi Sarge Publishing (Silver Sargent) at the Gallery Studios in Hartford, Connecticut.
In 1981, Kerry returned to Cincinnati, Ohio. After returning home, Kerry performed with “Friction” 1982-1986, “Munique” 1990-1997, and “DW Project” 1998-2000.
In 1996, Kerry formed the group “JAMSET” to promote his upcoming single “JazzIsMusicIsFunky. “JazzIsMusicIsFunky” was recorded and published in 1997, and was promoted and used for several years at Cincinnati’s Macy’s Musical Festival, Cincinnati and one of the country's largest and highly attended annual festival.
Kerry has performed with national artists Phil Perry, Barrington Henderson (Temptations), Pamela "Saxtress" Williams (Rick James and Patti Labelle) and Jean Carne. His band has opened for such artists as Roger Troutman and ZAPP, Pieces of A Dream, Bobby Blue Bland, Alex Bugnon and others.
JAMSET, a Smooth Jazz quartet continues to performs . It was in 1999 when Kerry established “J-Basso Productions” and became Musical Director and bassist for recording vocal artist/percussionist, “Ms. Jaz”, on the D’Mar Entertainment Record Label as well as other D’Mar artists.
In 2012, Kerry was featured in the February issue of "Bass Player" Magazine, and also released JAMSET’s hot new CD “Live and Jazzin’ It Up” on the D’Mar Record label. The CD continues to receive high marks around the globe. It was named #1 on the Jazz Charts on CJSW Radio in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
One of Kerry's most memorable moments was in 2012 when the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards (CEA) nominated his recent JAMSET release “Live and Jazzin’ It Up” for the Best Jazz Group, and the subsequent 2012 Ms. Jaz & JAMSET Promotional Tour with guest Kevin Wilder (Keys) and Warren Miller (Drums). While on tour, they performed live, in studio on the “Upper Room with Joe Kelley and Gi Dussault”, WVOF-FM, Fairfield, CT.
